| SuperVariMag Systems |
![]() |
The standard SuperVariMag systems offer magnetic fields of 6-9 Tesla, sample tubes of 1.0"-1.5" diameter and a 10 or 20 liter useful capacity open neck helium reservoir in a nitrogen (N series) or vapor shielded (V series) superinsulated dewar. There inserts can also be supplied in larger helium capacity dewars, where a "belly" in the helium reservoir provides an increased helium capacity, either in a nitrogen (NB series) or vapor shielded (VB series) superinsulated dewar. High efficiency systems (HE series), include a dewar with a floating radiation shield between the helium and nitrogen reservoirs to provide the ultimate in low loss design in a top loading system. 9T/12T up to 17T/19T magnets are supplied with a Lambda point refrigerator (LPR) for operation at the higher field, with the reservoir at atmospheric pressure. SuperVariMag systems offer efficient cost effective units with static hold times starting at `50 hours, and are available with field homogeneities of 0.5% and 0.1% over a 1cm diameter sphere. Larger sample tubes (3-4" OD), and higher field homogeneities (0.01% or better over 1cm diameter sphere) and special field profiles are available. Non-optical experiments such as critical current, resistivity, specific heat, Hall effect, etc. are easily performed with a SuperVariMag system. With the addition of appropriate gradient, modulation and pick-up coils, the SuperVariMag system is easily adaoted for use in Faraday Balance susceptometry, vibrating sample magnetometry, etc. The SuperVariMag series may be used in conjunction with an optionalindependent magnet support and wiring system, thus allowing a magnet to be used with more than one insert (He-3 or immersion inserts). In this configuration, the SVT insert can be introduced and removed without disturbing the magnet. |

| SuperOptiMag Systems |
![]() ![]() |
The classic SuperOptiMag (SOM) systems provide optical access throughthe dewar vacuum into the high field region of a sp;it superconducting magnet. More recently the SOM series have been supplemented with the SOM2 series that provide larger sold angles and fit in laboratories with limited ceiling space. Magnetic fields of 5-9 Tesla are available with an optional Lambda point refrigerator. Horizontal magnetic field systems, with optical access along and perpendicular to the field, allow investigation of the angular dependence of the magnetic interaction of a sample with the field. Vertical field systems, with optical access along the dewar and sample tube axis, provide a larger sample space for the same split solenoid. Strain relief mounting for the sample chamber windows is available for experiments using polarized light. Optinal bottom optical access is available for all these systems. With useful helium capacities starting at 13 liters, and static hold
times of `80 hours, these systems offer typical f numbers of 1.5 to 2.5
with sample tubes of 0.75" to 1.5" diameter. The SOM and SOM2 systems
are ideal for a variety of magneto-optical studies, including: magnetic
circular dichroism, FT-IR spectroscopy, optically detected magnetic resonance,
etc. Special systems with sample chambers 2" or larger, field homogeneities
of }0.01% or better and larger cryostats are available. The SuperOptiMag
series can also accommodate side loading cryostats with sample in vacuum.
